Gungahlin Drive Extension Stage 2

Community Information

The Environment

The original Gungahlin Drive Extension (GDE) preliminary assessment and subsequent supplementary studies considered the road in its ultimate four lane dual carriageway form. It has been established that the current GDE duplication is confined to the existing road reserve. Consultation with the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) has confirmed that no additional Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required.

All mature trees within the Stage 2 works were removed during Stage 1 work. The only trees that will be removed in this current project will be some small trees planted as part of the Stage 1 landscaping. These trees will be replanted as part of the final Stage 2 landscaping works.

A review of all heritage listed sites identified during the original site investigations for the GDE was undertaken. None of the listed sites fall within planned duplication work boundaries are therefore not expected to be affected by the proposed GDE duplication works.

Safety Screens

A risk assessment has been undertaken in accordance with the ACT Government’s documents. The Bridge Safety Screen Warrant System and the Bridge Safety Screen Policy. The bridges at Belconnen Way, Ginninderra Drive, Ellenborough Street and Barton Highway all score highly and will be provided with safety screens.
